Master Electricians Conference another success

You could have heard a pin drop when Victoria Cross winner Willie Apiata addressed delegates at the Master Electricians 2016 Conference in Taupo, says CEO Neville Simpson.

“Willie is an inspiring person and delegates were mesmerised during his speech.”

Among other highlights was a talk by Dr Michael Carr-Gregg, an adolescent psychologist, who spoke about the issue of depression in young people, and how this might impact on trade apprentices.

Across an enjoyable long weekend in October, delegates mixed business with pleasure and networked with other professionals in their industry.

A series of business sessions provided them with up-to-date information about legislation and management issues, while interactive technical sessions occurred on the trade show floor.

For the first time ever the Master Electricians Challenge Final was held in conjunction with the conference, which gave New Zealand’s top apprentices the opportunity to show off their skills in front of their peers.

Two off site dinners, and the opportunity to take in some of Taupo’s best activities and natural landscapes were enjoyed by delegates and their partners.

Mr Simpson says the conference was successful, with delegates leaving revitalised, with a renewed vision and fresh ideas for their businesses.

Next year Master Electricians is looking forward to sharing the event with its Australian counterparts, Master Electricians Australia.

“We’re going offshore to hold it and expect some good numbers. We haven’t had a combined conference with the Australians for nearly 20 years, so it will be a great opportunity for us to catch up and talk about the issues impacting the electrical industry on both sides of the Tasman.”
