Excellence rewarded

Four companies were honoured at the Hire Excellence Awards Dinner, which closed the 2016 HIANZ conference in Rotorua.

Hirepool Wellington and Stella Hire of Invercargill received Gold Awards, while Timaru Hire, and Tool Hire Taranaki were the recipients of Silver Awards.

“We congratulate the four winners, who have met the rigorous standards required to rightly refer to their companies as award winning,” says HIANZ CEO, Phil Tindle. The Hire Excellence Awards were introduced by HIANZ in 2008 and are a platform for acknowledging and rewarding business excellence amongst hire companies of all sizes who operate across various industry sectors.

“The awards are unique in that businesses are not competing against each other, but typically nominate themselves to be assessed against a set of criteria to determine their level of operational excellence. Only those that meet these thresholds by gaining a specified number of points, win awards. It is essentially an independent audit.”

Three judges with different backgrounds and areas of expertise travel the country visiting the nominees. They judge the businesses in real time and chat to the owners about a range of criteria such as presentation of premises and staff, security, products and services, marketing, customer service, adherence to industry best practices, health and safety compliance, and overall operational efficiencies.

As part of the judging process the nominees are also visited by mystery shoppers.

“There are many benefits in taking part in the Hire Excellence Awards. The application process alone is a great tool for business owners to reflect on their achievements to date and set objectives for the future. Winners can also use the award logos on their marketing material and potentially increase their profile and boost staff morale.”

HIANZ President Tim Mikkelsen, who presented the awards, said it was a privilege to witness the achievements of the award winning companies.

“It is exciting to see the growth of member companies and continued maturity of our industry. I am especially proud of member companies who have such faith in their business practices and staff, to enter the Hire Excellence Awards. I know it takes a tremendous effort to enter these awards, but it is certainly good for their businesses, and I know it is great for our industry.”
