Thrill seekers, mountain bikers and walkers and will soon have a new playground with the Christchurch Adventure Park opening it’s doors this December.
The park stretches over 900 acres of pine forest on the Port Hills between Worsleys Road and Dyers Pass Road, 5km from the city centre. A high speed chairlift , the longest in New Zealand, will transport up to 1200 visitors and their bikes per hour to the top of the Port Hills where visitors will be able to connect to the Crater Rim walking tracks, the parks mountain bike tracks and a custom built dual 4 leg zip line tour.
The Zip Line Tour is world class and will see locals and tourists flying high above the Cashmere Forest. The design team have introduced dual lines to the experience so visitors will be able to share this thrill seeking attraction with their friends and family. Two of the four zip line legs offer non stop zips of approximately 1km in length. The park also hosts a 200 seat café nestled within the forest for visitors to enjoy a coffee, beer or a bite to eat after an action packed day in the Park.
The $25m development is the brainchild of Canadian based company Select Evolution.
Their innovative design skills coupled with their deep understanding of operations and an ability to excel in the critical factors of project planning, including deadlines, cost control & value management have contributed to Select Evolution becoming a leading player in the leisure industry worldwide.
Select Evolution hired a local team of contractors and consultants to help deliver the Park. The experience of the fully integrated local team coupled with Select Evolution’s international expertise in creating unique leisure facilities, track design and overall development, provides the perfect platform to create a world class operation that will put the Christchurch Adventure Park on the international map right out of the gate.
Select Evolution Director, Darron Charity, has nothing but praise for the construction team who have been working to extremely tight time-lines. “The support and professionalism of the local construction team has been instrumental in The Park’s progress. It has been a huge challenge as we committed to deliver the Park to Christchurch by Christmas 2016, effectively turning a 20 month build into 8 months. We have been so fortunate that team we engaged were dedicated in delivering this for the people of Christchurch. It’s not been without some long hours and hard work from all involved but once we open the doors and see people experience the Park it will be well worth it.”
Open 365 days a year the Christchurch Adventure Park is set to make its mark on the International Stage.
Work on the second phase of the Adventure Park will get underway next year, with the introduction of a mountain coaster, more biking trails and the building of 284-bed accommodation facilities ranging from dormitories to more luxurious cottages.
